Dobromir Georgiev Schetschew ( Bulgarian Добромир Георгиев Жечев , English transcription Dobromir Georgiev Zhechev; born November 12, 1942 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian football player and coach.

Athletic career

Schechev comes from the youth of Spartak Sofia , for whom he made his debut in the championship in 1959 . Only two years later he received his first appointment to the Bulgarian national team , in which he established himself as a regular player in the following years. At the 1962 World Cup he was part of the final squad for the first time, after the team had lost their first two tournament games, he came in the 0-0 draw against England for his only tournament appearance . Four years later he was a regular player at the 1966 World Cup , after three defeats the Bulgarian selection was eliminated again early on, bottom of the table.

In 1968, Schechev won his first title with Spartak when the team beat Beroe Stara Sagora in the final of the Bulgarian Cup . In the following season the club merged with Levski Sofia , in 1970 he won the championship with the club and came second in the election for footballer of the year in Bulgaria. In the same year he took part in a World Cup finals for the third time, again in three finals games while he contributed to third place in the group. In 1974 the defensive player won his second championship with Levski, and this time he was also part of the World Cup squad in the same year. This time he remained without commitment under selection coach Christo Mladenow . He made a total of 73 senior international matches in the Bulgarian national dress.

After the end of his career in 1975 Schwetschew took on various tasks as a coach. First he worked at Aris Thessaloniki , from 1981 to 1983 and again briefly in 1989 he took over the position of head coach at Levski Sofia. In between he worked for Lok Gorna Orjachowiza , with the club he rose to the first division in 1987.
