Leonidas Kampantais ( Greek Λεωνίδας Καμπάνταης [ lɛɔˈniðas kamˈbadai̯s ]; born March 8, 1982 in Athens ) is a Greek professional footballer in the service of Panionios Athens . He plays in the position in the center of the storm and is considered a technically adept and “working” striker. During his time at Arminia Bielefeld , he wore his first name Leonidas on his jersey.
Football career
Kampantais began his football career with the Greek club Aris Thessaloniki in 2002. There he scored three goals in 18 games. In the next step in his career, he moved to the traditional Greek club AEK Athens in 2004 . There he developed into a regular player and scored nine goals in 22 games in the 2006/07 season and also prepared seven goals. Because of this good season, Arminia Bielefeld's scouts became aware of him. Since his contract with AEK expired, he refused a contract extension and joined the Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld for the 2007/08 season, where he received a two-year contract. Here, however, he was never able to assert himself. After a few appearances in his first season in which he scored a goal, he came in the 2008/09 season, also due to injuries, not used, whereupon his contract was not renewed and he moved to his homeland to Olympiakos Volos. However, he said goodbye to Olympiacos Volos in the 2010/11 season and moved to the Greek first division club OFI Crete . There he scored seven league goals in two years. In the meantime he has found his way back to the Athenian club Panionios Athens , where he has played since 2005 and has played since the 2012/13 season.
