Gilbert Prilasnig (born April 1, 1973 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian football player.

Career

Prilasnig began his career at the age of twelve at VST Völkermarkt in Carinthia, where he also attended grammar school and played until he graduated from high school. In 1991 he moved to Sturm Graz , where he celebrated his greatest successes until 2001: two times Austrian champion and three times cup winner as well as three participation in the UEFA Champions League. Particularly noteworthy is the 2000/01 season , when, with Sturm Graz, an Austrian team reached the second round of the Champions League for the first time . Since 2001 Prilasnig played for Aris Thessaloniki , then at FC Carinthia - but only until the summer of 2003. It was not until April 2004 that an engagement in England at Cambridge United came about , but further engagement attempts at Nottingham and Wolverhampton Wanderers failed, so he did briefly switched to the German regional league south for SV Wehen in autumn 2004 (see “KTZ” report from September 19, 2004), before signing for DSV Leoben from January 2005 . After the end of his season there at the end of the autumn season 2006, he played from April 2004 in Poland for Miedź Legnica . From summer 2007 he went to SV Horn , from summer 2010 he was under contract with SC Wiesfleck in Burgenland's 2nd League South, where a coach friend of his worked, and let his active career end there after a year. - For a long time he played in the position of the left midfielder, but then withdrew more and more into the defense. - He is currently employed by Sturm Graz.

Prilasnig played a total of 16 times for the Austrian national team - he made his debut in 1997 in a 3-0 win in Estonia . In the course of what was then World Cup qualification, the Austrians made it to the 1998 World Cup , where Prilasnig was absent due to injury. In the last game before the 1998 World Cup, he tore a cruciate ligament and was unable to play in France.

Since 2004 Gilbert Prilasnig has also been socially committed as the team leader of the Austrian homeless national team and prepares them for the annual homeless world cup (HWC). For this work he and Harald Schmied were awarded the Graz Human Rights Prize in 2017 .

He also played futsal at 1. FSC Graz .

In addition to his football career, he studied linguistics at the University of Graz and graduated with a master's degree.
