Career

society

Regueiro began his career at the Uruguayan first division club Atlético Cerro from the Montevidean Barrio Villa del Cerro . There he played from 1996 to 1998. In 1998 he moved to Nacional Montevideo . He played for the "Bolsos" until 2000. In that year he was part of the team that won the national championship. He then moved to Racing Santander in Spain . There he made his debut on February 4, 2001 in the Primera División , when he came on in the game against Deportivo La Coruña in the 60th minute for Olof Mellberg . By the end of the season he was used a total of 17 times in the league and scored four goals. He also ran once in the Copa del Rey. At the end of the season, his club was relegated to the second division. In the second division season 2001/02 he contributed with 27 appearances in the Segunda División and one goal to the direct resurgence. He was also active at the club from Santander in the three following first division seasons and played 97 first division matches in which he scored a total of 17 goals (2002/03: 32 games / 5 goals; 2003/04: 33/4; 2005/05 : 32/8). His further career path leads to Valencia CF in 2005 . He made his debut with the new employer on September 24, 2005 in the first division game against Real Sociedad San Sebastián . In the 2005/06 season a total of 24 league appearances with three goals are recorded for him. In the 2006/07 season, in addition to six Champions League and two Copa del Rey games, only six completed first division matches (no goal) were added, although he only came up on the 38th matchday of the season in the entire 2007 calendar year. Opponent was also in his last competitive activity for his club Real Sociedad San Sebastian. In the 2007/08 season, 23 first division games (one goal) Regueiros are led for the newly promoted Real Murcia . Also with this club he was relegated at the end of the season. He was loaned to Murcia by Valencia CF.

After he had trained at the end of the season at Nacional Montevideo and kept himself fit, he was loaned to Aris Saloniki in August 2008 . There he is said to have scored three goals in 23 appearances.

At least in the 2009/10 season he was in the ranks of Montevideo's Nacional . At the Bolsos he was used 22 times in the Primera División during that season ( Apertura : 10 games / 2 goals; Clausura: 12/4) and scored six times in the opposing goal. He was also on target five times in eight Copa Libertadores matches. Next three games (two goals) in the Liguilla Pre Libertadores 2009 will be performed for him. Regueiro played for the Argentinian club CA Lanús since the Apertura 2010 . There he completed 95 league games by 2013, in which he scored 23 goals. He also has seven games in the Copa Libertadores . Here he scored four goals. He then joined the Racing Club de Avellaneda on loan in July 2013 , for which he played eight league games until his last appearance on October 6, 2013.

Around that time, Regueiro's family tragedy reached its climax, causing him to fall into depression and a life crisis and ultimately to terminate his contract with the Racing Club. After his two 18-year-old and 19-year-old nephews were apparently shot dead in the course of a settlement in the criminal milieu in October 2011, his sister's little daughter was killed in a traffic accident in January 2013. His 43-year-old sister, who couldn't cope with this fate, took her own life in August 2013. After returning to his homeland, he joined Defensor at the beginning of 2014 and is now continuing his career. There he played four games in the Primera División in 2014 and scored one goal. In the league, he was only eleventh with Defensor in the 2013/14 season. However, he advanced with the club to the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores 2014 . In this competition he was used in an encounter. At Apertura 2014 he rejoined the Club Atlético Cerro, where he started his career. After 23 appearances in the first division and nine goals in the 2014/15 season, he finally ended his active career and has since worked for Cerro as a sports advisor. He resigned from this office on August 13, 2015 due to differences with the club's management.

In the Uruguayan senior national team he made his debut under national coach Daniel Passarella on October 8, 2000 in the 1: 2 away defeat in the World Cup qualifying game against Argentina, when he came on in the 65th minute for Gabriel Cedrés . Up to his last assignment for the Celeste on October 14, 2007, he played 29 missions for the senior national team. In doing so, he scored a hit. He took part in the 2002 World Cup with Uruguay .
