Wolf von Beckerath

Wolf von Beckerath (born March 18, 1896 in Krefeld , † December 28, 1944 in Brühl ) was a painter from the Lower Rhine who did not devote himself to any particular school or direction.

Life

Beckerath studied philosophy and art history at the University of Bonn from 1914 to 1915 . 1915 to 1918 Participation in the First World War . From 1919 to 1921 Beckerath continued his university studies in Heidelberg and Freiburg .

From 1921 to 1923 he attended the Krefeld School of Applied Arts with subsequent study visits to Munich , Berlin and Paris . Until he was drafted into the military in 1939, he lived as a freelance painter in Krefeld. Beckerath was killed in an air raid in 1944.

The city of Krefeld highlighted Wolf von Beckerath's work in 1948 in a commemorative exhibition in the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum .
