The Real Aries Bock , Common Aries Bock or wasps Bock ( Clytus arietis ) is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae). It is the most common species of its genus in Central Europe, but like almost all longhorn beetle species, it is designated as particularly protected in the Federal Species Protection Ordinance.

features

The beetles reach a body length of 7 to 14 millimeters. Its body is black and has a yellow pattern similar to that of a wasp , the size and course of which varies. Depending on a fine band runs along the front and rear edge of the neck plate and respective transverse spot is located behind the shoulder, toward the outer edge of the deck wing . In the middle of the wing there is a transverse band curved forward towards the middle, another straight one runs further back. The ends of the wings are completely yellow, as is the scutellum . The short pronotum is slightly arched and broadly rounded on the sides. Its surface is finely grained and wrinkled. The wings are very finely dotted. The first tarsal link of the hind legs is significantly longer in the male, and slightly longer in the female than the rest of the combined. The legs are colored orange-brown, the thighs ( femora ) are darkened in some or all of the legs. The antennae are also colored orange-brown and darken towards the tip. This distinguishes the species from the very similar Clytus lama , in which the antennae are uniformly colored and also not thickened. The yellow spots behind the shoulders are also slightly slanted.

Occurrence

The species is distributed in central and southern Europe , north to northern Denmark , central Norway and Sweden , southern Finland and east of the Caucasus , across the Transcaucasus to Western Asia. It is also found in the British Isles . The animals colonize deciduous forests from the plains to the low mountains, occur everywhere and are not uncommon, locally even common. They fly from May to July.

Way of life

The adults are found when visiting flowers , especially on umbellifers and hawthorns and also on dead wood from deciduous trees. The larvae live in dry branches of hardwood such as oak , beech , hawthorn or fruit trees. They develop initially between the bark and the wood and eat their way deep into the wood until pupation. They take two years to develop.
