Stephen Gerard O'Donnell (born May 11, 1992 in Bellshill ) is a Scottish football player who plays for the first division club FC Motherwell and has also been a Scottish national player since 2018 . He is mostly used as a right full -back.
Career
society
Stephen O'Donnell was born in 1992 in Bellshill, a suburb of Glasgow . He began his career in youth with the Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers about 14 miles southeast of Glasgow. Then he was active at FC Aberdeen , where he was captain of the U17 team. From 2011 he played in the youth academy of Celtic Glasgow . With the U19 he won the Scottish Youth Cup in the final against the Rangers in April 2011 . As a 19-year-old O'Donnell moved to the then Scottish second division side Partick Thistle . He made his debut on September 17, 2011 against Ayr United, initially as a substitute, but was able to secure a regular place after a short time. With the club, he was promoted to the Scottish Premiership in the summer of 2013 . After two seasons in the top Scottish league, the full-back moved to Luton Town in the fourth English division. From there he returned to Scotland in 2017 and played for FC Kilmarnock for the next three years , where he became a national player. In August 2020 he moved to Motherwell FC from Scotland .
National team
Stephen O'Donnell played once for the Scottish U21 national team against Greece in 2013 . In May 2018 O'Donnell was from Alex McLeish in the squad of the senior team for the international matches against Peru and Mexico appointed. He made his debut on May 30, 2018 against Peru. For the Bravehearts he then came to two more friendly games against Mexico and Belgium , before playing with Scotland in the newly introduced Nations League against Albania on September 10 .
