Declan Gallagher (born February 13, 1991 in Rutherglen ) is a Scottish football player who is under contract with FC Motherwell .
Career
Gallagher, born in Rutherglen , signed with Celtic Glasgow at a young age and played for the club's U-19s, among others. He quickly became a regular on the team and played in the 2010 Scottish Youth Cup final , which ended in a 2-0 win over Rangers . In the 2010/11 season Gallagher was awarded to the Scottish fourth division club FC Stranraer . Gallagher made his debut in October 2010 in a 9-0 win over St. Cuthbert Wanderers in the 2nd round of the Scottish Cup . Two weeks later he scored on his league debut, in a 3-1 win over Queen's Park FC , when he scored for the final score. With the club he reached the round of 16 in the cup and fifth place in the table during his loan.
On August 9, 2011, Gallagher signed a contract with FC Clyde . For the club, which is also represented in the fourth division, he was active for a year. In the 2011/12 season, Gallagher missed ten games due to an injury. At the end of the season, the central defender had made 26 league appearances and scored two goals.
On June 1, 2012, Gallagher moved to first division club FC Dundee after the club had benefited from their forced relegation as a result of Rangers' bankruptcy. Gallagher became a regular in the first team and formed the center in defense along with Kyle Benedictus . However , he could not prevent the club's relegation from the highest Scottish league at the end of his first season in Dundee. In the following year he was promoted to the first division again. Gallagher was used on all 36 match days. Nevertheless, he turned down a contract extension in Dundee.
Gallagher then signed a contract with Livingston FC in July 2014 . After a final conviction for aggravated assault and a one-year prison sentence, Gallagher played for Livingston until 2019.
From the 2019/20 season he will play for the first division FC Motherwell .
Imprisonment
In April 2013, he hit a person who suffered a fractured skull with a baseball bat in a Blantyre hotel . He was sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated assault for the act in July 2015 . However, Gallagher and a co-defendant appealed their convictions and were released on bail the following month. He later served a year in prison at Castle Huntly .
