Paul Paton (born April 18, 1987 in Paisley ) is a Northern Irish football player .

Career

In the club

Paul Paton made his professional debut in October 2005 for FC Queen's Park , where he was already active in his youth. For the traditional Scottish club from Glasgow , he should complete 91 league games in the next three seasons. In the first 2005/06 season, he quickly established himself in the starting line-up and played a total of 23 games. Paton was also voted Young Player of the Year by the fans . In the following two seasons he was used 34 times. During his time at Queen's Park , he scored the first goal in the promotion playoffs against FC East Fife last season , which helped to celebrate promotion to the Second Division. In summer 2008 he moved to Partick Thistle within Glasgow . In the following five years he played for the club from the Maryhill district and he completed more than 150 competitive games, some of them as team captain. In the 2012/13 season he rose with the team in the Premiership . Before the start of the new season , he moved to league rivals Dundee United together with team manager Jackie McNamara and teammate Chris Erskine . With his new club, Paton reached the Scottish Cup final in the first season, which was lost to FC St. Johnstone . In the championship, Paton completed 37 out of 38 possible games. In the following two seasons he lost his regular place. After Dundee United was relegated from the Premiership, Paton moved to St. Johnstone FC on a free transfer.

National team

The son of a Northern Irishman, Paul Paton, who was born in Scotland, played his first international match for the Northern Irish national team in a 1-0 defeat by Uruguay when he was substituted on for Sammy Clingan in the 75th minute.
