Act

Stobbe was co-owner of the medical bookshop Ottmar Schönhuth in Munich from 1909 . With Hans von Weber and Ernst Rowohlt , he discussed the plan in 1912 to open a new type of bookstore where book lovers could chat in a cultivated environment and comfortably. As the name of this type of bookstore, they chose the term “bookstore”, which was already used in old printing works for rooms for drying damp sheets. As early as Christmas 1912, the “Bücherstube am Siegestor” opened in Ludwigstrasse 17A in Maxvorstadt was advertised in the magazine Der Zwiebelfisch . The pub, which quickly became a focal point of the symbolist literary scene and bibliophiles in Munich, got its name affix after the nearby Siegestor . Rainer Maria Rilke was one of his regular customers. The restaurant, which was also used for exhibitions, was named after that of Stobbe with Ernst Schulte Strathaus , Günther Hildebrandt and Paul Renner issued bibliophile journal The Bucherstube (1919-1927), whose six books a vintage alternating with the magazine The basic gescheute Antiquarius published . In addition to these magazines, an almanac of the bookstore appeared .

Stobbe was a member of the Society of Munich Bibliophiles , founded in 1908, and served as its managing director and secretary after 1912. After this society fell apart in 1913, he founded the Society of Munich Book Friends (1923–1931) with Carl Georg von Maassen , Rolf von Hoerschelmann , Carl Graf von Klinckowström , Ernst Schulte Strathaus, Hanns Floerke , Heinrich Ehlers , Günther Hildebrandt and Willy Wiegand .
