Adam Scott Matthewson Duncan (born November 2, 1888 in Dumbarton , † October 3, 1976 ibid) was a Scottish football player and football coach.
Career
Player career
The Scotsman's first club was his hometown club FC Dumbarton where he started playing in 1906. In March 1908 he moved to Newcastle United . As a striker or winger, he was a member of the championship team of the Magpies in 1909. In May 1913 Duncan went back to Scotland. His football career was interrupted by the First World War. During the war, Duncan also played two games as a guest player at Celtic Glasgow . In 1918 he went back to FC Dumbarton. In the 1921–1922 season he played at Cowdenbeath FC. The third and final time he returned to Dumbarton in 1922/1923.
Coaching career
The first club was Hamilton Academical 1923. From October 1925 to June 1932 he was a coach at Cowdenbeath FC. After Cowdenbeath, he moved to Manchester United for five unsuccessful years . From 1937 to 1955 he was a coach and for the next three years General Secretary of Ipswich Town . Duncan began his retirement after a farewell game between Ipswich Town and Norwich City in 1958. The Scot died in 1976 in his homeland.
