John Mallan (known as Jim Mallan, more rarely Jimmy Mallan ; born January 25, 1927 in Glasgow , † May 27, 1969 ibid) was a Scottish football player . As the youngest player to date in the club's history at Celtic Glasgow , Mallan made his debut at the age of 15 years and 286 days.

Career and life

Jim Mallan began his career in the Pollok district of Glasgow with the local football club. On September 1, 1942, he signed a contract with Celtic Glasgow . He made his debut for Celtic as the youngest player of the club in the Southern Football League played during World War II against Heart of Midlothian in November 1942. During his time at Celtic, which lasted from 1942 to 1953, he won with the team only once the Glasgow Cup in 1949 and the Scottish Cup in 1951 . After Mallan had left the Bhoys in April 1953, he signed a contract with FC St. Mirren in October of the same year . For the near Glasgow club from Paisley he played until 1956. With the Saints Mallan reached the Scottish League Cup final in 1956 against FC Aberdeen . Mallan underwent an own goal when the ball hit his chest in the 2-1 defeat . Mallan ended his career in April 1956. He later ran a pub in Paisley.

He died in a Glasgow hospital in 1969 at the age of 42. He left behind his wife and three children.
