Marsh rod

The marching rod was a German measure of length. It was suitable for the "fat" and wet floors. The geestrute was used in poor , sandy soils . The basis of the measure was the 12 inch hamburger foot .

The marshland was mainly in the regions of Moorburg , Hamburg Elbe Islands and Vierlande at 14 feet, Billwerder 16 feet and Amt Ritzebüttel 18 feet.
