Adam James Matthews (born January 13, 1992 in Swansea ) is a Welsh football player .
Club career
Adam Matthews was born in Swansea, the second largest city in Wales, and attended Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Cardiff as a teenager . Matthews started playing football for Cardiff City at the age of 8 , previously playing rugby with the Swansea Ospreys . In Cardiff he went through the entire youth before in the season 2009/10 the Football League Championship his professional debut against Blackpool FC was. In the same season he was able to achieve the first professional goal of his career, in the 4-0 away win against Watford FC . At the end of the season Matthews made it to the playoffs with Cardiff , but lost there against Blackpool FC on penalties. In the following season he lost with his team against Reading and could not prevail again in the playoffs . In February 2011, the defender had already agreed on a contract with Celtic Glasgow from the Scottish Premier League for the new season. There he signed for four years and was supposed to replace Andreas Hinkel , whose contract had not been extended. Adam Matthews subsequently won the Scottish Championship four times in a row with Celtic, as well as the Cup and League Cup once . At the end of the 2014/15 season , the Welshman was sold to AFC Sunderland for a transfer fee of £ 2m .

Matthews has played for Wales since the U-17. He made his debut for the A-Eleven of Wales at the 2011 Nations Cup in the 3-1 loss to Scotland after he came into the game for Neal Eardley .
