Career

Southend United

After his early days at the lower class club Grays Athletic , Gary Hooper moved to the English second division club Southend United on August 10, 2006 . In two years in Southend , however, Hooper only got two hits in 32 league appearances. During this time, his club loaned him to Leyton Orient in 2007 and in 2008 for three months to the fourth division club Hereford United . He left a lasting impression, especially in Hereford , as his eleven goals in 19 appearances contributed to the promotion to the third division.

Scunthorpe United

On July 1, 2008, Gary Hooper moved to English third division Scunthorpe United for £ 125,000 , where he signed a three-year deal. As an undisputed regular player, he had an excellent season with 24 goals in 45 league games. His new club also benefited from this excellent hit rate and qualified for the play-offs with sixth place in the table . After a win against Milton Keynes Dons defeated Scunthorpe in the final in Wembley to Millwall FC 3: 2nd Even after promotion to the Football League Championship in 2009/10 , he was able to preserve his accuracy and scored 19 goals in 35 games. His club narrowly secured relegation in the English second division at the end of the season and also benefited significantly from his goals.

In the last game of the season, he scored five times in a 5-0 win against Heart of Midlothian , which only the two Rangers players Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller had managed before him .
