Eckhard Gustav Fritz Meise (born October 17, 1940 in Hanau ) is a German classical philologist and historian .

Life

Eckhard Meise was the third child of from Herford originating Study Council Dr. Wilhelm Meise and his wife Margarete, b. Boos, born. His father was killed at the end of World War II . He grew up with his grandfather, Gustav Boos, then pastor in Kesselstadt , and attended the High State School in Hanau. After graduating from high school in 1960, studied Latin , history , politics , classical archeology and philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1966 he passed the first state examination. During two years as an assistant at the Frankfurt Seminar for Ancient History, he took the second state examination in 1968 and completed his doctorate with Konrad Kraft on the subject of investigations into the history of the Julian-Claudian dynasty . Since 1970 he has been a teacher of Latin, history and politics at the Karl Rehbein School in Hanau, where he taught until his retirement in 2003.

In volunteering , he headed since 1977, with interruptions to 2000 as chairman of the Hanau Historical Society , whose honorary chairman he is today. It was during this time that the Hanau Historical Museum was redesigned after the fire at Philippsruhe Palace in 1984, in which he participated.

In his scientific work, he distinguished himself primarily through research on the history of the Jews in Hanau . He appeared with numerous articles in the Neue Magazin für Hanauische Geschichte , the Hanauer Geschichtsbl Blätter and in other publications.
