August Gaul plaque
The August Gaul plaque is an award and gift of honor from the city of Hanau in Hesse .
Naming
The plaque was named after August Gaul (1869–1921), who was born in Großauheim near Hanau , a sculptor who was the first modern sculptor in Germany and the most important animal sculptor of the fin de siècle , the turn of the 19th into the 20th century, applies.
dedication
The plaque was created in 1969 to honor special services to the city of Großauheim. It was first awarded on the occasion of the 100th birthday of its namesake August Gaul.
Due to the administrative and territorial reform of the state of Hesse, Großauheim was incorporated into the city of Hanau. The August Gaul plaque was accepted as an honorary gift from Hanau in 1980.
The city of Hanau awards the August Gaul plaque to institutions and personalities who have rendered outstanding services in the cultural and artistic fields.
design
The bronze plaque was designed by Hans Michael Kissel from the State Drawing Academy in Hanau . It shows a camée on which the namesake August Gaul is shown in profile. In addition, the lettering August Gaul born 1869 gest 1921 is freely arranged in capital letters .
