Mathilde Hain

Mathilde Hain (born March 16, 1901 in Großauheim , † January 12, 1983 in Neuenhain ) was a German folklorist .

Life

Hain received his doctorate in 1932 at the University of Frankfurt under Franz Schultz in German studies on the essence of early expressionist drama . In 1934 she passed the state examination in German, English and philosophy. However, she did not go to school, but did research with the folklorist Julius Schwietering . Shortly before the end of the war, in February 1945, Hain completed his habilitation at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After her habilitation, which was funded by the Reich Ministry of Education , and studied the vernacular in an Upper Hessian village , she returned to teaching at the University in Frankfurt . There she headed the Institute for German Folklore from 1953 to 1968 , initially as an associate professor with a diet lecturer from 1962 as a scientific adviser and professor.

She published several books on folklore and language studies.
