August Peukert (born November 23, 1912 in Großauheim (today a district of Hanau ), † February 2, 1986 in Hanau) was a German painter and glass artist.

life and work

From 1926 he studied with Professors Schimke, Reissner, Estler and Reinhold Ewald at the State Drawing Academy in Hanau . From 1936 he took part in exhibitions in Frankfurt a. M., Munich, Berlin and Flensburg.

As a soldier in Norway, he presented the pictures he took between 1941 and 1943 in Kristiansand . After the war he showed his work in Rome, Stuttgart, Munich, Dresden, Karlsruhe, Berlin and Bucharest, among others. Solo exhibitions took place in Hanau, Frankfurt, Fulda Offenbach, Hildesheim and Ludwigsburg.

Peukert first worked with glass in the 1950s, experimenting with glass mosaic and glass painting . There were numerous works in chapels and churches in the vicinity of Hanau, u. a. in the Protestant Friedenskirche in the district of Kesselstadt and in 1951 in the St.Nikolauskirche in Hanau-Steinheim as well as in the Kath. Church of St. Paul in Großauheim.

Further works are in the chapel of the St. Vinzenz Hospital in Hanau, in the cath. Church in Maintal-Dörnigheim, the cemetery chapel in Bad Orb and the Protestant church in Hanau-Klein-Auheim. In the cath. Church in Neuhof near Fulda is Peukert's largest wall mosaic on an area of ​​10 × 14 m. The most extensive work was created in the form of a multi-part glass window wall in the Protestant church in Leverkusen-Mathildenhof.

In 1969 he received the August Gaul plaque and in 1979 the letter of honor from the State of Hesse .

In February 2010 the art collector Alfons Kottmann donated 46 works by August Peukert to the Museum Schloss Philippsruhe. In December 2010, Peukert's daughter Hilde Eich donated ten works from the artist's early days to the Museum Großauheim .
