Dominik Kanaet (born May 6, 1991 in Zagreb , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the MHK Dubnica nad Váhom in the second-class Slovak 1st division since the beginning of 2017 .
Career
Dominik Kanaet began his career as an ice hockey player in the junior division of the KHL Mladost Zagreb . At the age of 15 he moved to Slovakia and played for HK Spartak Dubnica and MHC Martin , for whose U18 and U20 juniors he was active from 2006 to February 2010. The attacker then returned to his hometown and signed a contract with KHL Medveščak Zagreb , for which he made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2009/10 season , when he was on the ice in a total of 15 games in the Austrian Ice Hockey League and scored two goals. At the same time, he played two games for Medveščak's second team in the Slohokej League . In the 2010/11 season , the Croatian international was again part of the regular staff in the team from Zagreb, for which he scored four goals and four assists in a total of 58 games. With Medveščak he was also in the national league of Croatian champions and played nine games for the Zagreb team , the newly founded cooperation of the Zagreb top clubs, in the Slohokej league. Also in 2012 he became Croatian national champion with Medveščak. He then moved to the second-rate Slovak first division for a year (as in many other countries, the second highest division in Slovakia is referred to as the “first division”) to HC 07 Detva . In 2013 he moved to Northern Europe and moved to the Herlev Eagles in the Danish Metal Ligaen . After only one year he returned to Detva, where he played until the beginning of 2017. Then he moved to the third-rate MHK Dubnica nad Váhom , with whom he rose to the first division at the end of the season.
International
For Croatia , Kanaet participated in the junior division at the U18 Junior World Championships in Division II 2007 , 2008 and 2009 , the U20 Junior World Championships in Division II in 2008 and 2009 , when he made a significant contribution to the rise of the Croatians as the best attacker of the tournament, as well the U20 Junior World Championships in Division I in 2010 , when he was the second best assist provider behind the Norwegian Scott Winkler , and was voted the best player on his team, and in 2011 .
In the adult sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2009 , 2010 , 2014 , 2015 , 2017 and 2018 as well as in the World Championships in Division II in 2011 , when he was the third-best scorer in the tournament after his compatriots Marko Lovrenčić and Borna Rendulić in 2012 and 2013 . In 2013 he and his team were promoted to Division I at the tournament in their home town of Zagreb . In the men's world championships up to and including the 2017 World Cup, he scored 14 goals in 38 games and provided 19 assists. In addition, he was on the ice in the qualifying tournaments for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in a total of nine Croatian Games. He scored six goals and gave three assists.
