Marko Lovrenčić (born November 22, 1982 in Zagreb , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian ice hockey player and current coach who was under contract with various Zagreb clubs. He is currently the national coach of the Croatian women's team . His brother Zvonimir was also a Croatian international.

Career

Marko Lovrenčić began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of the KHL Medveščak Zagreb , for whose first team he made his debut in the Croatian ice hockey league in the 1998/99 season. In its first four seasons, the center was each Croatian champion with his team, with which he took part in the multinational Interliga between 2000 and 2002 . From 2002 to 2008 he played for their league rivals KHL Zagreb . From 2006 to 2008 he played parallel for his ex-club Medveščak Zagreb, with whom he first took part in the Slovenian ice hockey league in the 2007/08 season .

Since 2008 Lovrenčić played exclusively for the KHL Medveščak Zagreb, with which he was again Croatian champion in the 2008/09 season. For the 2009/10 season Medveščak was included in the Austrian Ice Hockey League , in which the right-handed shooter scored a total of eight points in 58 games. In the 2010/11 season , the long-time national player lost his regular place at Medveščak in the Austrian ice hockey league and also played regularly for the Zagreb team , the newly founded joint project of the Zagreb top clubs, in the Slohokej league . With Medveščak's second team, he became Croatian champions for the sixth time in his career in 2011. In late January 2012 he moved to KHL Mladost Zagreb from the Slohokej League. He ended his career in 2013.

International

For Croatia Lovrenčić took part in the junior division at the U18-C-European championship in 1998 and the U18-world championships in 1999 in the European division 1 and 2000 in the European division 2 as well as in the U20-junior D-world championship in 2000 and after switching to the Today's division system participates in the Division II tournaments of the U20 Junior World Championships in 2001 and 2002 .

In the senior category, he was in the Croatian squad at the World Championships of Division II in 2004 , when he was top scorer of the tournament, in 2005 and 2007 when he was again top scorer and top scorer of the tournament, in 2011 when he was not only top scorer and top scorer, but now too was the best preparer and was consequently also voted the best striker of the tournament, and in 2013 , when he again provided the most assists and also had the best plus / minus balance of the tournament, as well as at the World Championships in Division I in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2006 , 2008 and 2010 . He also played for Croatia in qualifying for the Olympic Winter Games in 2006 , 2010 and 2014 . He was Croatia's team captain at the 2010 and 2011 World Championships.

Inline hockey

In addition to ice hockey, Lovrenčić also played inline hockey . With the Croatian national team , he took part in the 2013 World Cup in Dresden in June 2013 . The Croatians took fifth place in Division I.

Coaching

At the 2016 Women's World Cup , Lovrenčić was the head coach of the Croatian women's team , with whom he had to accept relegation from group A to group B of Division II.
