Rudolf Skácel (born July 17, 1979 in Ústí nad Orlicí ) is a Czech football player .
Club career
Skácel played in his youth for FK Trutnov, later for SK Hradec Králové , for which he made his debut in the 1st division in 1999. In February 2002 he moved to Slavia Prague for 14 million crowns , where he quickly became a regular. In the summer of 2003 he was transferred to Olympique Marseille for around 50 million kroner , but where he could not prevail and after a year on loan he moved to Panathinaikos Athens .
After only one season he was loaned to the Scottish club Heart of Midlothian in 2004/05 . The midfielder had an excellent season in Edinburgh , scoring 16 goals in 35 games. The Hearts finished runner-up and won the Scottish Cup . In the summer of 2006 he moved to Southampton FC for £ 1.6million . In the second half of the 2007/08 season he was loaned to Hertha BSC .
After he was without a club at the beginning of the 2009/10 season and kept fit with FC Hradec Králové , he signed a contract with Slavia Prague in October 2009 until the end of the year . In January 2010 Skácel moved to the Greek club AE Larisa , where the midfielder signed a one and a half year contract. In the summer of 2010, the Czech terminated his contract with AE Larisa and moved to his former club Heart of Midlothian in mid-September 2010 for free.
National team
In the Czech national team Skácel made his debut on November 15, 2003 at 5-1 in Teplice against Canada , in which he achieved the meanwhile 5-0. Then Skácel came to two more assignments in 2005. He also played nine times in the U21 team and scored one goal. Skácel was nominated for the European Championship in 2008 , but was not used there.
