Hugh Howie (born February 14, 1924 in Glasgow , Scotland , † January 14, 1958 ) was a Scottish football player and journalist . In his active career as a player, which he played exclusively with Hibernian Edinburgh , he won the Scottish Championship three times .

Career

Hugh Howie was born in Glasgow in 1924. He began his football career with the Newton Juniors for whom he played until 1943. He played for Hibernian Edinburgh from 1943 until his end of playing career in 1954 . His time with the Hibs was interrupted by a tuberculosis illness that he cured in the Swiss health resort of Davos . With the Hibs he won the Scottish Championship in 1948 , 1951 and 1952 . Howie played in Edinburgh throughout his career, making 139 league appearances from 1943 until his retirement in 1954.

After his career as a player ended, he worked as a journalist for the Daily Express .

Howie died in a traffic accident at the age of 33 .

National team

Hugh Howie played an international match for the Scottish team against Wales in the 1948/49 British Home Championship in 1948 . In his first and last appearance for the national team, Howie scored the opening goal in a 3-1 win at Ninian Park , which he helped to win the British Home Championship.
