Arthur Numan (born December 14, 1969 in Heemskerk ) is a former football player from the Netherlands . Since 2012 he has been working as a scout for the Dutch honorary division AZ Alkmaar .

Career

Numan started his career at the amateur club SV Beverwijk and later went to HFC Haarlem . On March 26, 1988 he made his professional debut for Haarlem against DS 79 (2-0). At that time he still played a more offensive role, later in his career he was mostly used as a left full-back . In 1991 he moved to FC Twente Enschede , where he immediately rose to captain and moved to top Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in 1992 . There he played with stars such as Ronaldo , Romário and Jaap Stam , and here too he was given the captain's role in 1996. In 1997 he won the Dutch championship and the Dutch Super Cup . In 1998, the Dutchman was given over to Glasgow Rangers for a transfer of almost seven million euros . His coach at that time was once again Dick Advocaat , as was the case with his previous positions in Haarlem and Eindhoven. In his first season with the Rangers, he initially struggled with injuries, but a little later he was able to help the team to the Scottish Championship and the Scottish Cup in 1999. Until Numan ended his career in 2003, he was two more times Scottish champion and three more times cup winner.

The defender played 45 times for the " Elftal " between 1992 and 2002 , but without scoring a goal. Between 1994 and 2000 he took part in every World and European Championship without having a regular place.
