Steven George MacLean (born August 23, 1982 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football player who was most recently under contract with Heart of Midlothian .
Career
society
Steven MacLean was from August 1, 2002 in the senior squad of the Glasgow Rangers . In the 2002/03 season he completed three league games for the Rangers under Alex McLeish . He made his professional debut on December 22, 2002 against Partick Thistle when he came on for Stephen Hughes . For the following 2003/04 season MacLean was awarded to the English fourth division club Scunthorpe United . With 23 goals scored, he was the top scorer . After returning to Rangers, the 21-year-old was put on the transfer list. Shortly thereafter, he was sold to English third division club Sheffield Wednesday for a transfer fee of £ 125,000 . In his first season he scored 18 league goals, Wednesday rose to the second division after the play-offs. In August 2005, he broke his leg and was only used six times in the 2005/06 second division season . In the last year of his contract in Sheffield he scored another 12 goals. Then he was under contract with league rivals Cardiff City . He joined Plymouth Argyle in January 2008 for £ 500,000 . There he was no longer so accurate in the following three years. From February to June 2010 he was loaned to Aberdeen FC , then from November 2010 to May 2011 to Oxford United . From July 2011 MacLean played at Yeovil Town and on loan from Cheltenham Town . In July 2012 he moved to FC St. Johnstone . The former Rangers player made his debut against Celtic on September 15, 2012 which the Saints won. With the club he won the Scottish Cup in the final against Dundee United in 2014 . MacLean scored the 2-0 final score. In his 203rd and last competitive game for the club on May 5, 2018, he scored a hat trick against FC Motherwell . The 35-year-old then moved to Heart of Midlothian in his native Edinburgh .
