Alexander Scholz (born October 24, 1992 in Esbjerg ) is a Danish football player . The defender is under contract with FC Midtjylland and was a former Danish youth international.

Childhood and youth

Scholz, son of Flensburg originating German parents , lived until the age of five in Esbjerg, before moving to Daugård in Vejle moved.

His father Kent Scholz was also a soccer player and played at Esbjerg fB and Vejle BK , among others . Alexander was a German citizen until the beginning of the 2010s , but today he only has Danish citizenship.

Career

Scholz started playing football in the youth of Esbjerg fB . After his father changed to Vejle BK , he went to Hedensted IF and later to the Vejle BK academy. Since the summer of 2010 he was part of the first squad and made his debut on June 20, 2010 in the 0-1 defeat on Matchday 30 against Lyngby BK under coach Mats Gren in the starting lineup. At the end of the 2009/10 season there was relegation from the super league . Towards the end of the next season, in the Vejle BK from March 2011 after the merger with Kolding FC temporarily started as Vejle Boldklub Kolding , he became a regular player and was used in a total of 16 games. With Vejle BK, Scholz rose straight back to the super league. He then interrupted his career as a footballer, made a pilgrimage on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela and hiked in the Himalayas .

In February 2012 he signed a contract in Iceland with UMF Stjarnan Gardabær and played 21 games with five goals scored this season. In early 2013 he moved to Sporting Lokeren in the Belgian Pro League . On January 19, 2013 he made his debut in a 6-2 win at Oud-Heverlee Löwen in the starting lineup; he scored the goal to make it 4-2 in the 80th minute and was used in all seven games over 90 minutes until the end of the regular season. In the championship play-offs, Scholz was last with the club. In the 2013/14 season he qualified with the team again for the championship play-offs and occupied the penultimate place in the table. He won the Belgian Cup with the club; In the final against SV Zulte Waregem , he scored the winning goal to make it 1-0. As a cup winner, the club played in the play-offs for the Europa League and ultimately qualified for the 2014/15 Europa League . In the Europa League, Scholz was used in all six group games and was eliminated with Sporting Lokeren after the group stage.

In January 2015, Scholz moved to Standard Liège . He received a contract that ran until June 2018. On January 25, 2015, he made his debut for the Liège team in a 2-0 win on matchday 23 against RSC Anderlecht , with whom he finished fourth after the championship round and play-off round. In the 2015/16 season Scholz made 15 appearances and finished in seventh place; in the play-offs he did not play, also due to injury. He won the national cup competition with a 2-1 win in the final against Club Bruges . In the third qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League he defeated Zeljeznicar Sarajevo and was eliminated in the play-offs against Molde FK . In the 2016/17 season he played with Standard Liège in the group stage of the Europa League and was used in all six games. In the league, he finished fourth with the team. In the first half of the following season, Scholz played for the Liège in eleven games in the league and in two games in the Belgian Cup.

In January 2018, Scholz joined Club Bruges . On February 4, 2018, he made his debut for Club Bruges at 3: 3 on matchday 25 in the game against RSC Charleroi and became Belgian champions with the club in the summer. He had only come to six missions. His contract was originally concluded until 2021. In summer 2018, however, a move to the Danish FC Midtjylland was agreed; Scholz received a five-year contract. In his first season there he won the national cup straight away with a 5-4 win in the final on penalties against Brøndby IF .

National team

From 2010 to 2011 Scholz played four times for the Danish U-19 national team .

From May 2014 to June 2015 he played in 14 games for the Danish U-21 national team . He qualified with the team for the U-21 European Championship in 2015 and was nominated for the tournament by coach Jess Thorup . In the meantime, he had been invited to the Danish senior team by Morten Olsen , but not used. At the U-21 European Championship in June 2015, Scholz was eliminated with the Danish U-21 in the semifinals against eventual tournament winners, the Swedish selection . Scholz was used in all four games in the tournament.
