Kolja Afriyie (born April 6, 1982 in Flensburg ) is a former German soccer player . He was mainly used as a right full-back . He spent most of his active career in Denmark. He also came to four missions for the German U-21 national team .

biography

Starts in Flensburg and at Hamburger SV (until 2000)

Afriyie was born in Flensburg to a Ghanaian father and a German mother . There he attended a kindergarten and a school for the Danish minority in Germany . He started playing football at DGF Flensborg , a sports club belonging to the Danish minority. In 1998 he moved to the youth team at Hamburger SV , but the contract was terminated in 2000 for reasons of performance and school problems.

Denmark (2000 to 2010)

Then Afriyie moved to AC Horsens in Denmark . At first he belonged to the reserve team, but soon rose to the first team and became a top performer. In the summer of 2004 he moved to Esbjerg fB and was eliminated with the club in the UI Cup against FC Schalke 04 . In the league, the club finished fifth in the table, but qualified for participation in qualifying for the UEFA Cup . In the following season Afriyie retired with the club in the second qualifying round at Tromsø IL . In the league, the club finished sixth in the table and in the Danish Cup competition Esbjerg fB reached the final, which they lost 1-0 to Randers FC . In the new season, Afriyie played four more times for the club and moved to FC Midtjylland . There he was used in 25 games. At the end of the season he was runner-up with the club and qualified for participation in qualifying for the UEFA Cup and reached the main competition. In the first round, the team was eliminated against Lokomotiv Moscow . As in the previous season, FC Midtjylland took second place in the league at the end of the season; Afriyie had made 29 appearances and two goals in the league game.

In qualifying for the UEFA Cup in the following season, FC Midtjylland were eliminated in the second qualifying round against Manchester City on penalties; Afriyie missed his penalty. In the league he came to 25 missions. FC Midtjylland finished fourth at the end of the season. In the following season Afriyie came to 21 missions and two goals for the league game operation. This season he reached the final of the Danish Cup competition for the second time in his career; the final was lost to FC Nordsjælland after extra time. He was used in the final for the entire 120 minutes.

Energie Cottbus (2010 to 2011)

In the summer of 2010, Afriyie moved to the German second division Energie Cottbus , with whom he signed a contract that ran until 2013. On August 15, 2010 he made his debut in the Cottbus jersey in the first round of the cup against TuS Heeslingen . On August 22, 2010 he made his debut in German professional football on the first day of the second division season 2010/11 in the game against Fortuna Düsseldorf . He was used for the Lausitzer in 15 games in league play. With FC Energie he reached the semi-finals of the DFB Cup , where he had an appearance in the round of 16 against VfL Wolfsburg . In July 2011 he terminated his contract with Energie Cottbus.

Return to Denmark and end of career (2011 to 2014)

Afriyie then returned to FC Midtjylland and made his comeback on July 25, 2011 in a 3-2 win on the second day of the Superliga season 2011/12 in the game against HB Køge . At the end of the season, FC Midtjylland took third place in the table and qualified for participation in the play-offs for the Europa League . In the following season , Afriyie only came to 18 missions due to a herniated disc. In the play-offs for the Europa League they were eliminated against BSC Young Boys , Afriyie was used in the 3-0 defeat in the first leg and was not in the squad for the second leg. In the league, the FC Midtjylland occupied fifth place in the table. In the following season he came to only nine missions and one assist in the league game . On April 5, 2014, he made his last game in a 3-2 defeat on Matchday 25 against eventual champions Aalborg BK when he came on for Francis Dickoh in the second half .

In May 2014, Afriyie retired at the age of 32.

National team

Afriyie played for the Schleswig-Holstein selection and was discovered by Jürgen Kohler in 2002 during a country tournament . On August 12, 2002 he was nominated by Kohler for the friendly game of the German U-21 national team in Grosseto against the Italian contemporaries on August 20, 2002 and came on in the 88th minute for Andreas Hinkel .
