The DGF Flensborg is a sports club of the Danish minority in Flensburg . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest amateur league in Schleswig-Holstein .

history

The association was founded on November 9, 1923. The club has its own sports facilities, including a soccer field, near Marienhölzung .

Soccer

The footballers played for the Danish federation until 1951 and then switched to the DFB , with some teams still competing in the Danish league system today. In 1963 DGF was champion of the 2nd amateur league north, but failed in the promotion round to the national league. A year later, they were promoted to the top division of Schleswig-Holstein.

With twelfth place in the promotion season 1964/65, the Danes were the sporting number one in the city for a year. Relegation followed just a year later. In the 1971/72 season, the team gave a renewed and to date last guest appearance in the country's highest league. In 1980 DGF was relegated from the regional league and reached its low point eight years later when it was relegated to the regional league.

The club now increasingly focused on its youth work and returned to the regional league in 1996. After a league reform, DGF played in the District Oberliga Nord from 1999 to 2008 and rose from the newly created Association League Northwest in 2009 . The rise was achieved in 2015.

volleyball

Since 1975 there has been a volleyball division under the direction of Gerhard Höllmer, which until 1991 successfully participated in the division of the Schleswig-Holstein volleyball association with several teams in the women's, men's and youth division. The highlight was winning the men's championship title in 1982.

Handball

The handball players of the DGF Flensburg rise in 2001 to the third-class Regionalliga Nordost . The sporting highlight was the fifth place in the 2002/03 season . Two years later the team was relegated.

baseball

The baseball club, which was initially called the Baltic Knights, was originally part of the "American Sports Club eV", which also played football, basketball and celebrated cheerleading. This, the only baseball club in town since it was founded, should not be confused with the “Falcons” baseball team from Flensburg, Minnesota . Flensburg's baseball club was already playing within the association league of the Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg baseball associations (S / HBV). In 2003 the baseball club joined the DGF Flensburg. In 2009 the youth team of the club started in the youth league of the S / HBV. In 2009 and 2010 the first men were the best team at national level. The men's team had to forego participation in the regional league because the club did not yet have an adequate baseball field. Since 2011, their home ground has been the Ehrenhain in the Volkspark . Today's Flensburg Baltics consist of 65 members, 50 adults and 15 young people.

Boxing

BC Sparta Flensburg, which had existed since the late 1970s under the direction of Erwin Pophal, later became BC Flensburg, where István Kovács , Sven Ottke and Wladimir Klitschko started their careers as boxers. In 2000, the club joined the DGF Flensborg under the new name DGFBoxes. The training takes place under the direction of the multiple national champion SH Torge Surkus in the Idraetshalle, the club produced various national champions and winners in the amateur league.

badminton

Badminton has been offered to young people and adults in the club for many years. The players take part in tournaments that are offered. The badminton department is the smallest department in the club and is a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Badminton Association (SHBV).
