Jacopo Sala (born December 5, 1991 in Bergamo ) is an Italian football player . The midfielder has been under contract with SPAL Ferrara in the Italian Serie A since September 2019 .

Career

Adolescence

Sala started playing football at the amateur club ASD Virtus Oratorio Gazzaniga . He then played for two years at UC AlbinoLeffe and in 2001 joined the youth department of Atalanta Bergamo .

Chelsea FC

Sala moved to Chelsea at the age of 15 and became a key player in the FA Youth Cup . In total, he played 43 times for the youth team from 2007 to 2009, scoring eleven goals. In 2010 he and his team won the FA Youth Cup. In the 2008/09 season Sala was also used three times in the reserve team before he became an integral part of the team for the 2009/10 season. In 2011 Sala won the Premier Reserve League with Chelsea .

Hamburger SV

For the 2011/12 season Sala was signed by the German Bundesliga club Hamburger SV . He signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2014 and was number 22 on his back. At the beginning of the season, Sala tore a muscle bundle during training. He made his comeback in a competitive game on September 25, 2011 in a 0-1 home defeat of the second team against Halleschen FC . On October 25, 2011, he was in the DFB Cup game against Eintracht Trier for the first time in the 18-man squad for a competitive game of the first team. However, he was not used in the 2-1 away win against the regional division. On January 22, 2012 (18th matchday) Sala made his professional debut when he came on as a substitute for Marcell Jansen in the 65th minute at the start of the second half of the 2011/12 season against Borussia Dortmund . On the following day he was in the starting line-up for the first time in the 2-1 away win against Hertha BSC . On February 4, 2012 (20th match day) he scored his first and so far only Bundesliga goal in a 1-1 draw at home against FC Bayern Munich . However, Sala could not prevail in the rest of the second half and in the 2012/13 season .

Hellas Verona

For the 2013/14 season Sala moved to Hellas Verona . He signed a contract with the newly promoted Serie A until June 30, 2016. On August 17, 2013 he made his debut for the Northern Italians in the third round of the Coppa Italia 2013/14 against the US Palermo in the starting lineup. On September 1, 2013, he made his debut in Serie A in a 3-0 defeat at AS Roma on the second match day of the Serie A season 2013/14 , when he came on in the 65th minute for Massimo Donati . Also due to injuries, he came to only 15 missions this season. His first and only goal of the season he made on April 13, 2014, on matchday 33 in the 5-3 defeat against Fiorentina, with the 1-0 opening goal for his team.

Sampdoria Genoa

In January 2016, Sala switched to Sampdoria Genoa on loan , before a purchase obligation took effect on July 1, 2016. The contract period from summer 2016 is four years. At Sampdoria he was number 22 on his back. On February 1, 2016, Sala made his league debut for his new club against Bologna FC (3-2 defeat), where he was on the pitch for the entire season.

National team

On September 27, 2006 Sala made his debut for the Italian U-16 national team in a 1-1 draw against Sweden . He came to nine missions and played on April 9, 2007 for the last time for the U-16s in a 0-1 draw against France. On October 2, he played for the first time for the Italian U-17 national team in a 2-1 win against Armenia , meanwhile in the youth of Chelsea FC . In his second use on October 7, 2007 against the Czech Republic, he scored his first goal. Sala played eight times for the U-17 national team. On March 11, 2009 he was used in the 1-0 victory of the Italian U-19 national team against Norway . Sala played eight times for the U-19s until 2010. Two years later he was used in the 3-0 win of the U-21 national team against the Netherlands on August 15, 2012. For the U-21, he came to five missions.
