James Daly

James Firman Daly (* 23. October 1918 in Wisconsin Rapids , Wisconsin ; † 3. July 1978 in Nyack , New York ) was an American film and theater actor .

Life

Daly attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Cornell University in 1941 . After graduating, he did his military service in World War II . From 1946 he was on stage on Broadway . In the years to come, Daly shuttled back and forth between Wisconsin and New York a lot.

Daly was more likely to establish himself in the theater than in film and television. Major Barbara by George Bernard Shaw is one of his most successful theater productions, for which Daly received the Theater World Award in 1951 . He also played eight US presidents, including George Washington and Theodore Roosevelt, in AE Hotchner's stage production The White House in the early summer of 1964 .

His best-known feature film was the Planet of the Apes, produced in 1968 . In the same year he shot next to Bud Spencer and Peter Graves the spaghetti western The Five Feared . He also played guest roles in various television series and had one of the leading roles in the medical series Medical Center between 1969 and 1976 . In 152 episodes of the series he hired Dr. Paul Lochner.

James Daly died of a heart attack three months before his 60th birthday . Its ashes were scattered in the Pacific . He had three children with his wife, the stage actress Hope Newell , whom he married on a home leave in 1942. His daughter Tyne Daly became known through the series Cagney & Lacey . His son Timothy Daly also works as an actor. The daughter Glynn is married to the film composer Mark Snow . The actress Kathryne Dora Brown is his granddaughter.
