Swell:

The Georgsmarienhütte – Hasbergen railway connects Georgsmarienhütte in the Osnabrück district with the Bremen – Münster railway . The main task of the line is freight traffic, passenger traffic was discontinued in 1978. There was a connection to the Osnabrück – Bielefeld (“Haller Willem”) railway .

history

The former station of the Hüttenbahn in Hasbergen

The oldest part of the route was issued by the Royal Hanoverian government in 1864. It covers the route from Georgsmarienhütte to the Red Mountain . The line went into operation piece by piece until 1870, with a separate station in Hasbergen directly opposite that of the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (CME).

With the commissioning of Hüggelbahn in 1865 could ores cost of Hüggel be moved to the hut. In Hasbergen there was a connection to the "taxiway" and from 1887 to the Perm Railway . The ores from Ibbenbüren's Perm colliery could be transported inexpensively to the smelter via the latter . With the closure of the Perm Railway in 1926 and the Hüggelbahn gradually from 1970 to 1987, it lost its branch lines.

A suspension of freight traffic was discussed in the course of the reactivation plans for the "Haller Willem" , the freight traffic would then have been shifted to this route. It connects Osnabrück with Oesede here . However, due to resident protests, these considerations were not pursued any further and the siding from Georgsmarienhütte to Oesede train station (now the stop) was shut down.

The route was initially owned by the Georgs-Marien-Bergwerks- und Hüttenverein , from 1978 (after the shutdown of passenger traffic) the route became the property of Wittlager Kreisbahn and later the Osnabrück district transport company . Since 1996 the route has again been owned by Georgsmarienhütte GmbH .

The operation was carried out continuously by the transport department or the transport company of Georgsmarienhütte, which for a long time operated as Georgsmarienhütten-Eisenbahn (GME) and has been called Georgsmarienhütte Eisenbahn- und Transport GmbH (GET) since 1996 .
