The station Hasbergen is located in the municipality Hasbergen southwest of Osnabrück on the railway line to Munster (Westphalia) . It is listed in the second lowest station category 6 ("local traffic stop ") by Deutsche Bahn . The station records 550 travelers every day.

history

The former station of the Georgsmarienhütten-Eisenbahn with a special train

Hasbergen first received a connection to the railway network in 1870 with the opening of the section to Osnabrück by the CME . The Georgsmarienhütte – Hasbergen railway line was also completed around the same time . Both lines meet to the south-west of the village, here the companies involved (CME and the GMBHV ) initially set up their own train stations in the immediate vicinity, but further to the west there were also track systems that enabled the exchange of wagons between the train companies. In addition to the modest passenger traffic, the station was therefore, from the very beginning, primarily used to make the Georgsmarienhütte accessible for iron ore and coal and to ship the products manufactured there. Initially, the section to Osnabrück was operated as an island operation with vehicles from the Georgsmarienhütten Railway. In September 1871 the further section of the CME line between Hasbergen and Münster was opened and the CME took over the operation on its own.

From 1887 the GMBHV built the Perm Railway between the Hasbergen train station and the Perm colliery , which also served to supply ore to the Georgsmarienhütte, but from 1889 also had passenger traffic. After the colliery was closed, the Perm Railway was also shut down in 1926.

During the Second World War , Osnabrück was repeatedly the target of Allied air raids, which prompted the Deutsche Reichsbahn to create ways to bypass Osnabrück Central Station . One of these bypass curves was created on the route of the former Perm Railway from Hasbergen to Velpe and operated from 1944 to 1946 for passenger and freight traffic. In 1949 this route was dismantled.

With the shutdown of passenger traffic on the railway line to Georgsmarienhütte in 1978, the old passenger station on the south side of the track became superfluous and the platform was shut down.

The former station building was completely renovated in 2010 and 2011. It has been used as an office building since 2011. In the course of the renovation work, the adjacent station forecourt was completely cleared and rebuilt.

Today's meaning

Hasbergen station is served today by the regional train line 66 and from December 15, 2019 by the Rhein-Haard-Express , which connects the main stations in Osnabrück and Münster every hour . The RE2 also connects Hasbergen to the Ruhr area and the Lower Rhine. Repeater trains also run here during rush hour. The line has been operated since December 2007 as part of the Teutoburg Forest Network by the Westfalenbahn , which uses Stadler Flirt vehicles here . The station is also passed through by all IC and ICE trains on the Ruhr area – Hamburg route. A house platform and a central platform are available for passenger traffic , so that overtaking is also possible.

In freight transport, the station Hasbergen continues to serve all trains to and from Georgsmarienhütte, the one from / towards Osnabrück here direction change must take place, which is why further larger railway tracks for freight transport are available.

The former DB station building was sold to the municipality of Hasbergen and completely restored in 2011. Since then, the station with its sandstone façade has once again been a focal point in the townscape. The area around the station has been redesigned by creating modern park & ride parking spaces. As a result, the Osnabrück transport association bus stop in front of the train station was no longer required. This is now about five meters above the station level on Tecklenburger Strasse. Approx. A new central bus stop was also built 300 m away, from which lines to Osnabrück and Hagen am Teutoburg Forest run.
