action

Late 1960s: Linda Kasabian is a young mother who leaves her child's father and is introduced to the ambitious street musician Charles Manson by her friend Catherine Share . The charismatic Manson moves with a group of young people, his "family", through the outskirts of Los Angeles. Kasabian quickly falls into Manson's influence and joins the group. The members of the Manson Family live on the Spahn Movie Ranch , a former western film site (including Bonanza ) in a hippie commune . They ensure their survival through crime , drug trafficking, the distribution of daily necessities by third parties and rubbish in garbage cans for food. The situation, drugs , group sex and the study of Manson's apocalyptic philosophies weld the group more and more together.

Kasabian, like the others, keeps subordinating her life to Manson's guidelines. He is desperate that he cannot find a way to publish his music. When a promised recording is canceled, the situation escalates. Manson believes that an impending national race war will wipe out all civilization and that only he and his group can withstand it.

When the prophesied race war fails, Manson decides to take matters into his own hands. He stages a series of murders carried out by members of his "family". Soon, Manson and his accomplices are convicted, and District Attorney Vincent Bugliosi is faced with the task of solving the murders. Manson is sentenced to death in the gas chamber , the sentence later commuted to life imprisonment .
