Steven Earl Parent (born February 12, 1951 , † August 9, 1969 in Los Angeles , California ) was known as one of the victims of the Tate murders , which had been perpetrated by members of the Manson Family .

Life

Steven Parent was the son of contractors Wilfred Elmer Parent and Juanita Parent. He had two younger siblings. Steven was considered a “typical American teenager” of the 1960s: a red-haired, rather shy boy with horn-rimmed glasses. Steven preferred to be involved in music and electrical engineering , but also with the illegal sale of electrical devices, which is why he often came into conflict with the law. He was arrested several times for petty theft and other crimes and spent some time in the juvenile penitentiary, where he acquired an excellent knowledge of electronics and electrical engineering. Friends described him as "exceptionally talented". In the summer of 1969, Parent graduated from Arroyo High School in El Monte .

The murder

Steven Parent was actually in no direct connection with the prominent married couple Sharon Tate / Roman Polański or their friends. He was an acquaintance of William Garretson, the caretaker of the Polanski estate on Cielo Drive. On the evening of the murder, on the night of August 8-9, 1969, Parent made a brief visit to Garretson to sell him equipment when he was ambushed by the Manson Family and a member of the Family , Charles Watson , when he was four Shot from a revolver in his car was killed.
