Barbara Jean McNair (born March 4, 1934 in Racine , Wisconsin , † February 4, 2007 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American singer and actress .

Life

McNair, who studied music at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago , first played on Broadway in 1958 . At the same time, she also built up a career as an actress, so she stood in front of the camera for the first time in Delmer Dave'sSummer of Expectation ” in 1963 . Her appearance in the feature film caused a sensation ... but the blood is always red in which she was seen naked. Appearances in television series such as Mission: Impossible or General Hospital followed . In 1968 she was in Jess Franco's surrealist mystery thriller Venus in Fursto see and hear; she also sang the theme song. The following year, she starred in Change of Habit alongside Elvis Presley . Her best-known films were Ten Hours for Virgil Tibbs (1969) and The Organization (1971). In both, Barbara McNair played the wife of Virgil Tibbs (Sir Sidney Poitier ).

Barbara McNair was also active as a singer since 1957 and under contract with several record companies . For example, from 1965 to 1969 she was under contract with Motown , where she released two albums and a number of singles.
