Jane Wyatt

Jane Waddington Wyatt (born August 12, 1910 in Campgaw , New Jersey , † October 20, 2006 in Bel Air , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Jane Wyatt was born to a theater critic and an investment banker. She grew up in New York City , where she only attended the best schools. After college she went to the acting school of the Berkshire Theater in Stockbridge , Massachusetts , and here she quickly played a variety of roles, so that she came back to New York as an experienced actress and played on Broadway . She signed to Universal Studios in 1934, and made her film debut in One More River that same year, directed by James Whale . Despite her contract, she continued to play theater on Broadway. Her best-known film was 1937, alongside Ronald Colman , Frank Capra's legendary adventure film In the Fetters of Shangri-La ( Lost Horizon ).

She was best known in Germany for roles in various television series. For her role as the ideal American mother in the television series Father is the Best , she was awarded the Emmy in 1958 , 1959 and 1960 . In Starship Enterprise , she was seen as Mr. Spock's human mother.

Wyatt was married to Edgar Bethune Ward from 1935 until his death in 2000. The couple had two sons.

Mount Wyatt , a mountain in Antarctica, is named after her because she was a friend of the expedition leader. She also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 .
