occupation

Hot Suspect (original title: Prime Suspect ) was a British crime series (1991-2006), the success of which made various crime series with female leaders possible (us coroner Dr. Sam Ryan , Commander ). The series was developed by the author Lynda La Plante , who was inspired by a real role model for the main character Jane Tennison .

Initially, only a two-part was planned. Due to the great success, other parts were shot that have different lengths and consist of one and three parts per season. After the fifth season, Helen Mirren , the actress from DCI Tennison, left the series, but turned two late stragglers from 2003, at the end of which the commissioner retires.

Among the many awards the series has won, three awards for the British Academy Television Award go to Helen Mirren as leading actress and two for the Emmy (1996 and 2007 awards). The climax followed for the likely final episode, Prime Suspect: The Finale, two nominations for the Golden Globe and three other Emmys for director, screenplay and leading actress Helen Mirren (as well as a nomination for best miniseries ). On October 3rd, 2009 the author Lynda La Plante received the "TV Spielfilm Preis" at the Cologne Conference Film Festival in Cologne, donated by TV Spielfilm magazine .

Supporting actors in individual episodes include Tom Wilkinson , Ralph Fiennes , David Thewlis , Robert Glenister and Ciarán Hinds .

In 2017, a prequel appeared with the six-part British miniseries Prime Suspect 1973 . Stefanie Martini played the role of the young Jane Tennison .

content

Detective Chief Inspector (later Detective Superintendent ) Jane Tennison is a police officer who not only has to grapple with criminal cases of pedophilia , child abuse and prostitution , but also has to fight off the sexism and prejudice of her colleagues and superiors. It is not uncommon for her to act against the express instructions of her superiors, even if she is threatened with serious consequences.

The investigator's private life suffers from work: a relationship hardly lasts beyond an episode and the distance to the family increases. As the series progresses, she can only endure the demands of the job thanks to excessive alcohol consumption , but in the end she realizes the need to seek help in this regard. In order not to endanger her career , she also decides to have an abortion . Investigations do not always end with an arrest. Even if Tennison solves the cases, she cannot always obtain convictions. At the end of a season, she repeatedly considers leaving the department or being transferred. In the end, relationships with her last relatives break up, her only confidante is killed and she retires.
