Žampach Castle

The castle Žampach (German Sandbach ) at the place of the same name Žampach is located in the foothills of the Eagle Mountains and belongs to the Okres Ústí nad Orlicí in the Czech Republic .

history

The Žampach Castle was first mentioned in 1309 in the King's Hall Chronicle . In 1354 it was owned by Johann von Smojna and was conquered by the Bohemian King and later Emperor Charles IV . After it came into the possession of the Lords of Pottenstein , it was rebuilt by them in 1469.

The associated rule reached its greatest extent in 1562 under Zdeněk von Pottenstein. At that time it consisted of two cities, three market towns and 29 villages. After that, it was divided several times. The castle, which has not been permanently inhabited since the beginning of the 17th century, was destroyed by Swedish and imperial troops in the Thirty Years War .
