Yves Frantz Loys Marie Le Pelley du Manoir (born August 11, 1904 in Vaucresson , † January 2, 1928 in Reuilly ) was a French rugby union player.
Du Manoir, who was of aristocratic origin, graduated from the Lycée Sainte-Geneviève in Versailles and then from 1924 the École polytechnique in Paris . There he acquired the degree of sub-lieutenant in the air force in 1925 . The talented rugby player played for the prestigious Racing Club de France , usually on the position of the connecting half .
On January 1, 1925, he came in Colombes for the first time for the French national team, in a Five Nations game against Ireland . Although the French lost 3-9, Yves du Manoir was voted best player of the day. By 1927 he played another seven international matches, one of them as team captain.
France was supposed to play against Scotland on January 2, 1928 , but du Manoir canceled because he had to take a military flight exam in Avord near Bourges . Just a few minutes after take-off, his plane, a Caudron C.59, crashed near Reuilly in the Indre department . A stele was erected not far from the crash site where du Manoir was killed .
Around four months after his death, the Racing Club renamed its stadium the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir . Until 1973, the national team played most of their games there. There is a statue of Yves du Manoir in front of the stadium. The Challenge Yves du Manoir , a rugby tournament held from 1932 to 2003 and organized by the Racing Club, is also named after him .
