Dirty Jobs (also called Dirty Jobs - work that nobody wants to do ) is an American reality TV series in which presenter Mike Rowe helps people with their mostly strenuous, dirty or disgusting work. The show premiered on November 7, 2003 with two pilot episodes. In Germany, it is broadcast on Discovery Channel and DMAX .

A European version has existed since 2007 and is presented by Peter Schmeichel .

On November 21, 2012, Mike Rowe announced on his blog that Dirty Jobs had been discontinued by the Discovery Channel.

format

A worker or team of workers take on Mike Rowe as a fully involved assistant for a typical work day. He has to work hard and finish every task as best he can, despite complaints, dangers or unsavory situations. The Dirty Jobs team, made up of producer Dave Barsky, cameramen Doug Glover, Troy Paff, Dan Eggiman and audio technician Josh Atkins, usually gets just as dirty as Rowe himself. Rowe likes to make fun of producer Dave Barsky , but he takes everything with humor.

Opening sentence

At the beginning of each episode, Mike Rowe can be heard saying a sentence while doing a dirty job : “My name's Mike Rowe, and this is my job. I explore the country looking for people who aren't afraid to get dirty - hard-working men and women who earn an honest living doing the kinds of jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us. Now, get ready ... to get dirty. " (Eng .: " My name is Mike Rowe and this is my job. I introduce you to people who are not allowed to be squeamish in their jobs. They do the dirty work for us, without which civilized society would not function. And now ... it's getting dirty! " )

history

The show grew out of a TV contribution called Somebody's Gotta Do It , which Rowe shot for a local station in San Francisco. In this post a cow was artificially inseminated. Rowe then received a flood of letters in which, according to Rowe, the opinions of viewers fluctuated between "shock, horror, fascination, disbelief and amazement". He then sent a tape with the show to the Discovery Channel, which finally commissioned a whole series based on the TV report. The series is produced by Craig Piligan and Gena McCarthy. At the beginning of 2013, the series was discontinued after 4 episodes of the 8th season.
