Ray Corrigan ( Ray "Crash" Corrigan , actually Raymond Bernard ; born February 14, 1902 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † August 10, 1976 in Brookings Harbor , Oregon ) was an American actor .

Life

Corrigan came to Hollywood in the early 1930s as a fitness trainer for star actors; soon he was given the opportunity to work as a stuntman and double (for example for Johnny Weissmüller ), was cast in smaller roles (under the name Ray Bernard ) and finally got a contract with Republic Pictures , which gave him the stage name Ray "Crash "Corrigan missed, as this better to the action serial fit, where he celebrated the first successes. He then became one of the Three Mesquiteers , a studio b-western series ; he appeared in the first 24 films.

Since Republic did not want to increase his fee, he did not renew his contract in May 1938, but went to Monogram Pictures , where he was again used in a "group series", the Range Busters films; Corrigan appeared in 20 episodes in this series. After that, he no longer signed a permanent contract. Since he had bought land ( Corriganville ) in the Simi Valley in 1937 and built a ranch, he was able to make a living renting it out for filming; In 1949 he opened the farm to the public and arranged shows in which several of his former companions appeared.

Nevertheless he remained connected to the feature film; a monkey costume in his possession was often used as a prop, and Corrigan himself appeared in this costume in a number of films. He died of a heart attack in 1976.
