Kyra Minturn Sedgwick (born August 19, 1965 in New York City ) is an American actress and Golden Globe Prize winner.

Life

Sedgwick attended only private schools and studied theater at the University of Southern California . She made her debut as a student in 1982 in the soap opera Another World radio station NBC . She also played theater roles and won a Theater World Award for her role in a play by Eugene O'Neill .

Sedgwick made her cinema debut in 1985 in War and Love . In the film, Born on July 4, she starred alongside Tom Cruise in the movie Singles - Together lonely alongside Bridget Fonda and Campbell Scott . She starred in the 1991 film Pyrates with her husband Kevin Bacon . She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the television movie Miss Rose White from 1992 . In the 1995 movie Power of Love , Sedgwick starred alongside Julia Roberts . For this role she received nominations for the Golden Globe and the American Comedy Award.

In the same year she also starred alongside her husband in the prison film Murder in the First and in 1996 she took on the lead role in his directorial debut Losing Chase , which she also produced. In the film Phenomenon - The Impossible Will Come True , she played alongside John Travolta . She also appeared with Bacon in The Woodsman in 2004 and Loverboy in 2005 .

From 2005 to 2012 Sedgwick played the lead role of Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson in the television series The Closer . For this she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award / Best Series Leading Actor - Drama from 2006 to 2011 and was also awarded in 2007. From 2006 to 2010, she was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award from the US Drama Association for this role . In 2010 she received an Emmy .

In 2012 Sedgwick was in front of the camera for the horror thriller Possession , which Sam Raimi produced and directed by Ole Bornedal . Since 2015 she has been the producer of the series Proof , in which Jennifer Beals plays the lead role of a heart surgeon trying to find out what happens after death. In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Private

Sedgwick met Kevin Bacon on the television production Lemon Sky in 1987 , with whom she has been married since 1988. You live in New York City and have two children, Travis and Sosie Bacon , who are also actors and musicians , respectively . Sedgwick is a second cousin of actress Edie Sedgwick .

She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 8, 2009 , near the award given by her husband Kevin Bacon.
