action

13-year-old Deanna Lambert had sex with Tommy, her older brother's best friend. When a video showing the two having sex hits the internet, their carefree lives seem to end forever.

By the time Deanna was 16, she was still struggling with the aftermath of the video's release. She is considered a slut at school and is still ridiculed by her classmates for what happened three years ago. It is not easy for Deanna at home either, because her father is still angry about the incident and disappointed with Deanna. He is unable to look his daughter in the eye.

Deanna doesn't want to let a mistake she made so many years ago rule her whole life and she takes it into her own hands. In the summer she starts a job in a restaurant, but is quickly reminded of her past, as Tommy also works here. However, he is remorseful about the video.

Sedgwick had already read the book the year it was published, and although it was shortlisted for the National Book Awards , it did not attract much attention.
