Ari & Sam (Original title: Pyrates ) is an American comedy film directed by Noah Stern from 1991. The main roles were played by Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon .

action

The film begins with the black and white images of the Great Fire of Chicago . The musician Sam and the photographer Ari live in Chicago and get to know each other in a discotheque. Sam thinks Ari is very sexy, she argues with another girl about him. Ari and Sam spontaneously have sex on the fire escape when a fire breaks out in the neighborhood.

Ari and Sam meet again when she is playing at a wedding where he is taking pictures. She invites him to her apartment, where collages on the wall remember her former lovers. When they have sex, fire breaks out again in the area. Even so, they start a relationship.

One of Ari's friends befriends Sam's roommate. He tells his theory that every relationship has to break after about four weeks. The relationship between Ari and Sam begins to run down when Ari no longer wants to take photos of Sam. After a few arguments, they part.

Ari and Sam's new relationships are not working properly, and after Sam has an argument with her new boyfriend, a fight breaks out. Ari appears at the end of a concert in the park, wades through a pool of water and hands Sam a bouquet of flowers. In the end, Ari and Sam are together again.

Reviews

Arno Mikli wrote on Bad Movie Night that the script would look like it was written in a bar after too many beers. He also ridiculed the main characters and the film.

The script was criticized in the London magazine Time Out ( Time Out Film Guide 13 ). The review said that using a few matches under the script would have been best.

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
