David Mansfield

David Mansfield (born September 13, 1956 in Leonia , New Jersey ) is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist . Mansfield plays violin , mandolin , guitar , steel guitar , mandocello , viola , cello and organ , among others .

Life

His first band, which also included two of Tony Bennett's sons , was called Quacky Duck and His Barnyard Friends .

In 1975 he was a member of Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue and stayed in Dylan's band until his world tour in 1978. In 1976 he formed The Alpha Band with T-Bone Burnett and Steven Soles .

In 1986 he was a founding member of Bruce Hornsby and the Range , but left the band before their first tour.

Since the end of The Alpha Band , Mansfield has worked as a studio musician for Bob Dylan, T-Bone Burnett , Johnny Cash , Nanci Griffith , Roger McGuinn , Sam Phillips , Mark Heard , The Roches , Edie Brickell , Spinal Tap , Lucinda Williams , Dwight, among others Yoakam .

In 1980 Mansfield was initially only intended as an actor for a supporting role in Michael Cimino's film Heaven's Gate , but eventually composed his first film music.
