Edie Brickell (born March 10, 1966 in Oak Cliff (District of Dallas ), Texas ) is an American singer and songwriter .

Life

She became known as the singer of the folk rock group Edie Brickell & New Bohemians , whose debut Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars in 1988 was both well received by critics and a commercial success. It has been found by reviewers to be an almost flawless album. The single releases What I Am and Circle were their only hits. For the soundtrack of the film Born on July 4th, she recorded a cover version of the Bob Dylan classic A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall in 1989 and also took on a guest role in the film as a singer in a New York bar. The second album, Ghost of a Dog could not build on the success of the first work commercially, although it was once again praised as great by the All Music Guide .

After this release, Brickell decided to pursue a solo career and in 1994 released Picture Perfect Morning , produced by Paul Simon. This work was only rated two out of five stars by Rolling Stone magazine . The title "Good Times" was licensed from Microsoft and supplied as a video on every Windows 95 CD to demonstrate the multimedia capabilities of the system to users .

After her marriage to the American singer-songwriter Paul Simon in 1992 , she concentrated on her private life. She has three children with Paul Simon: Adrian Edward (* December 1992), Lucia "Lulu" Jean (* April 1995) and Gabriel Elijah (* May 1998). Her comeback Volcano , published in 2003 after a long break, received little attention, it was classified as far less successful than Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars . In 2006 the album Stranger Things was released as part of a reunion with the New Bohemians . A year later, Brickell and her stepson Harper Simon released an album of the same name under the name The Heavy Circles , which has stylistic influences from rock music of the 1960s and includes guest appearances by Sean Lennon and Martha Wainwright . With actor and musician Steve Martin , she recorded the jointly written album Love Has Come for You in 2013 with traditional American music. The theme song was named Best American Roots Song at the 2014 Grammy Awards .
