Martha Wainwright (born May 8, 1976 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian folk - pop musician.

Life

Martha Wainwright is the daughter of the American singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III and the Canadian musician Kate McGarrigle and the sister of the musician Rufus Wainwright . She grew up in Montreal, Canada , and made music with her mother and brother from an early age. She released several EPs. However, she did not release her first album until 2005 on DreamWorks , the label on which her brother is also committed. It immediately hit # 18 on the Canadian album charts. At the beginning of November 2005 it was released on V2 Records / Rough Trade Records in Germany as well.

In addition, the single Set the Fire to the Third Bar was released in 2006 , which she sang on the album Eyes Open with Gary Lightbody, the front man of Snow Patrol .

The song "Dans le silence", originally written for the 4th season of the Canadian TV series "Trauma", became known in Germany as the title track of the first "Franken-Tatort" with Dagmar Manzel and Fabian Hinrichs (first broadcast April 12, 2015).

Wainwright lives in New York .
