Michael Herbert Schur (born October 29, 1975 in West Hartford , Connecticut ) is an American screenwriter , television producer , television director and actor , best known for his work on the four NBC comedy series Saturday Night Live , The Office , Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-nine .

Life

Michael Schur was established in October 1975 as the son of Anne Herbert and Warren M. Schur in West Hartford in the US state of Connecticut born. By his own admission, he was interested in the comedy genre at the age of eleven when he read Woody Allen's Without Leit kein Freud , a collection of short stories from 1975. He attended Hall High School in Connecticut and graduated from Harvard University in 1997 , where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and also editor of Harvard Lampoon magazine . Shortly after graduating, he was on NBC for the comedy series Saturday Night Live as a scriptwriter involved. He worked there until 2004 and wrote 139 episodes during this time and also acted as a producer from 2002 to 2004 . For his work on the series, he won an Emmy in the category Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program in 2002 and was also nominated for two other Emmys and three Writers Guild of America Awards. In 2005 he joined the HBO series The Comeback as a co-producer , which was discontinued after a season. A short time later he came back to NBC, which had hired him for his new comedy series Das Büro , an adaptation of the British series The Office . There he worked as a producer and screenwriter until 2008, for which he won an Emmy and two Writers Guild of America Awards. He also had nine guest appearances on the series as Dwight Schrutes ( Rainn Wilson ) cousin Mose through 2011 . In 2006 he also wrote all ten screenplays for the web series The Office: The Accountants with Paul Lieberstein , for which they both won a Daytime Emmy Award in the category Outstanding Broadband Program - Comedy . A year later, he was still a guest appearance on the Fox - Youth Series O. C., California .

In April 2008, Greg Daniels and Schur began developing a spin-off from Das Büro . After a few months of deliberation, however, they came to the conclusion that instead of a spin-off they would rather make an independent series. So they came up with the series Parks and Recreation , which should actually be called Public Service , which started in April 2009 at NBC. The two also act there as producers, executive producers and occasionally as television directors . In spring 2013, Schur and Daniel Goor came up with the Brooklyn Nine-Nine comedy series , which premiered on September 17, 2013 on Fox .

In October 2005, he married screenwriter JJ Philbin , with whom he has two children, a son and a daughter.
