occupation

The bog murderess of Manchester (Original title: Longford ) is a British film directed by Tom Hooper from 2006 .

The film deals with the unsuccessful campaign of the British Lord Longford to pardon the serial killer Myra Hindley .

action

Lord Longford , who campaigns for a reform of British prisons and who regularly visits them, receives a letter from the convicted serial killer Myra Hindley , who, together with Ian Brady, killed several children and young people in the so-called "moor murders".

During his visit, Hindley asked Longford for books and to help organize a meeting with Brady. Longford is shocked and tells her that such a request would greatly reduce her chances of a pardon. Hindley did not anticipate the possibility of a pardon at all. Longford then began a campaign for the pardon of Myra Hindley.

It remains unclear whether Hindley was really rehabilitated or whether she was manipulating Longford for her own ends. Longford also visits Brady, who describes his former accomplice as manipulative and advises Longford to stay away from her.

Longford, who believes in the good in people, continues his campaign against numerous opposition - from politics but also from his own family - and despite his own doubts.

Longford dies in 2001 without having achieved his goal. Hindley remained in custody until her death in 2002.
