The 12th US Satellite Awards ceremony took place on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles , formerly the Park Hyatt Hotel . In the film division, productions qualified for their North American theatrical release before November 20, 2007, so that later published films such as Francis Ford Coppola's youth without youth or Tim Burton's crime musical Sweeney Todd - The Devilish Barber from Fleet Street were not considered .

When the nominations were announced by the International Press Academy (IPA) on November 30, 2007, the film category was dominated by the drama La vie en rose by French director Olivier Dahan. The Édith Piaf biography with Marion Cotillard in the leading role came up with a total of seven nominations and won, among other things, victories in the categories of best foreign film, directing, and leading and supporting actress in a drama (Cotillard and Emmanuelle Seigner ), but only Cotillard received the trophy. The drama has no chance of an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film , as France surprisingly gave preference to the comic book adaptation Persepolis by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi in mid-September of this year .

The thrillers Deadly Promises - Eastern Promises and No Country for Old Men by David Cronenberg and Ethan and Joel Coen, respectively, followed with six nominations each . While the Coens' work has dominated the US film awards season so far and, as expected, was preferred in the important film drama and directing categories, Eastern Promises leading actor Viggo Mortensen was able to celebrate the award for best leading actor in a drama. The most successful film of the evening, however, became Jason Reitman's independent film Juno , which was able to convert all of its nominations into victories and won the awards for best film comedy, leading actress ( Ellen Page ) and best original screenplay, while Shekhar Kapur's sequel Elizabeth - The Golden Kingdom triumphed twice in the technical categories. The British literary adaptation Atonement (5 nominations) by Joe Wright , which leads the field of favorites at the 2008 Golden Globe Awards , received the award for best adapted screenplay. On the other hand, Chris Weitz 's fantasy film The Golden Compass and Scott Frank's thriller The Rules of Violence (5 nominations each) and the musical adaptation of Hairspray (4 nominations) did not receive a prize . The British actress Tilda Swinton was also unsuccessful, as she lost out in two acting categories as best leading and supporting actress in a drama. In Hilary Brougher's film Stephanie Daley , Swinton plays the role of a pregnant, forensic psychologist who is confronted with infant murder, while in Tony Gilroy's Michael Clayton she intrigues as an unscrupulous lawyer against George Clooney . The young Canadian actress and filmmaker Sarah Polley, on the other hand, would have been the first woman to win the directing award, after Kimberly Peirce ( Boys Don't Cry ) and Sofia Coppola ( Lost in Translation ) had vainly competed for the award in the past . But Polley was defeated by the Coen brothers with their drama On Her Side , in which the British Julie Christie slips into the role of an Alzheimer's patient.

In the television categories, the British-American feature film The Moor Murderess of Manchester , a portrait of the controversial British politician Frank Pakenham, 7th Earl of Longford (1905-2001), and which has already won an Emmy and Golden Globe award, were each rated four times Grey's Anatomy hospital series as favorites. Both formats could only score points with the jury in the actor categories ( Samantha Morton and Ellen Pompeo ). The awards for the best drama television series and the best actor went to the crime series Dexter . The series Alles Betty! ( America Ferrera and Vanessa Williams ) successful, while ABC's Pushing Daisies triumphed as best comedy series .
